Guide
How to turn a Word document into flashcards
Typed notes are the best raw material for flashcards because they are already in your words. The problem is the hour of copy-pasting to get them into card form. Here is the shortcut.
Upload the .docx directly
Quizcard accepts Word files as they are. Open a folder, click Upload file, pick the .docx, then click Make flashcards. Headings, bullet lists, and paragraphs are all read; formatting is ignored, so you don’t need to clean the document first.
Google Docs users: choose File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx) and upload that file. Pages users can export to Word the same way.
What you get back
- Question-and-answer cards for the definitions, lists, and relationships in your notes.
- Cards grouped by topic, following the structure of your document.
- A short explanation on the back of each card, which you can edit.
- A deck you can study immediately, offline if you like, and export later.
Notes that produce the best decks
- Keep headings. They become the topic groups.
- Full sentences beat fragments. “Mitochondria produce ATP through oxidative phosphorylation” gives a much better card than “mito – ATP”.
- Roughly 3,000 characters counts as one page toward your plan’s page limit. A typical ten-page study guide fits comfortably on the free plan.
- If you’d rather paste than upload, Quizcard also has a paste-text option that produces the same kind of deck.
Questions
Do I need to convert the Word file to PDF first?
No. Upload the .docx directly. Older .doc files should be saved as .docx in Word first.
Are images in my document used?
Not yet. Text is extracted from Word files; figure crops on cards are currently a PDF feature.
Is it free?
Yes. Your first two documents are converted free, and making or studying your own cards is always free.
