How to turn PowerPoint slides into flashcards
Lecture slides are dense with exactly the facts that show up on exams, and almost nobody re-reads them. Turning the deck of slides into a deck of cards is the fastest way to actually use them.
Upload the .pptx
In Quizcard, open a folder, click Upload file, and choose the .pptx. Then click Make flashcards. Each slide is read in order; titles, bullets, and speaker-visible text are all included.
From Google Slides, use File → Download → Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx). From Keynote, use File → Export To → PowerPoint.
How slides map to your plan
One slide counts as one page. The free plan reads the first 30 slides of a presentation, Basic 50, and Pro 100. A typical one-hour lecture is 30 to 50 slides, so most lectures fit on the free or Basic plan in a single upload. For a longer deck, split it in PowerPoint and upload the halves.
Getting the most out of slide decks
- Slides with a question in the title (“What limits the rate of diffusion?”) produce near-perfect cards. Many lecturers already write this way.
- Lists on slides become “name the N components” cards with the list on the back.
- If a slide is only a picture, it won’t contribute text. Consider exporting the slides to PDF instead, where Quizcard can crop the figure onto a card.
Questions
Does it read speaker notes?
Not currently. Only the text on the slides themselves is used.
What about .ppt files?
Save them as .pptx in PowerPoint first. The older binary format is not supported.
Can I combine several lectures into one deck?
Yes. Generate a deck from each, then use Import → merge into an existing deck, or keep them as separate decks in one folder and study the folder.
