How to turn lecture notes into flashcards
The notes you took in lecture are the best source for cards because they are already filtered through what the professor emphasized. The trick is getting them into card form the same day, before the context fades.
Three ways in
- Typed notes. Paste them into Quizcard with the AI cards button, or upload the Word document directly. Headings become topic groups.
- Handwritten notes. Type a cleaned-up version, or dictate it into a doc. Even rough full sentences produce good cards; fragments like “mito – ATP” do not.
- The lecturer’s slides or PDF. Upload the .pptx or PDF, generate, then delete the cards that duplicate what you already know. Figures from a PDF land on the cards.
What makes lecture-note cards good
- One idea per card. If a note has three facts, it becomes three cards, not one long answer.
- Prefer “why” and “when” questions over definitions where the lecture gave a reason.
- Keep the explanation on the back short. The tutor can expand it when you need more.
- Study the deck that evening and again two days later. The first review is where most of the retention comes from.
A weekly routine that holds
Upload each lecture the day it happens into a folder for the course. By the end of the week you have four or five small decks; study the folder as a whole on the weekend so the topics mix. Before an exam, the folder is the whole course, already in card form.
Questions
How many cards does a lecture produce?
Typically 20 to 50 for a one-hour lecture, grouped by the headings in your notes or the slide titles.
Can I paste notes instead of uploading?
Yes. The AI cards button accepts pasted text of a few paragraphs or more.
Is this free?
Your own cards are free with no limits. The first two generated documents are free; paid plans add more per month.
